Very charming little old patinated bronze statue representing the famous Robert Macaire. Dimension 21.5 cm high and base 7.5 by 7.5 cm. In good condition with a signature Gremeret sculpt. for Maurice Gremeret (1896-1961) About Robert Macaire: imaginary character linked to French romanticism, representing the bandit, the unscrupulous businessman. Invented around 1823, he is recurrent in certain theatrical, novelistic and visual works (caricature, engraving, and later in the cinema). He was created by the playwright Benjamin Antier and embodied by the actor Frédérick Lemaître in the drama L'Auberge des Adrets, performed for the first time in 1823.
