******************************************

Interesting "ancestor" PITCHER in pewter of Burgundy type with shoulder and body in inverted truncated cone shape with flared base. It rests directly on the bottom. Lid with trapezoidal tab and acorn thumb.
Engraved property mark: (R?). MARRE.
Gauging mark on the cup.
Height: 29.9 cm.
Gauge: 2.227 liters
SOUTH-EAST OF ILE-DE-FRANCE, End of the 16th or beginning of the 17th century

In very good condition, some very slight dents are however reported. The gauge corresponds to that in force in PROVINS, a town located at the time in Champagne, nowadays in Ile-de-France and close to Burgundy.
Piece obtained by the old technique of longitudinal casting also called "shell casting" which was abandoned at the end of the 17th century, more or less early depending on the production centers. This pitcher rests directly on the bottom as can be seen on the high period examples.
