The historical Buddha Siddhartha Gautama (Shakyamuni) represented in parinirvana. This pose symbolizes the entry of the Awakened One into nirvana and corresponds to the cessation of the cycle of births (Samsara). There, greed, hatred and illusion as conditions of the cycle are extinguished, as is the thirst for existence. Bronze in the Ayutthaya style (1351-1767), 19th century. The wide headband and the folds of the monastic robe are covered with ruby cabochons. Provenance: Estate of the collector and art dealer Claude de Marteau. www.thecdmcollection.be Sold with certificate of provenance. L 107 cm x D 32 cm x H 32 cm Approximately 25 KG
