"Anagram And Illumination From The 17th Century..."
A testimony of quite exceptional fervor, this document deserves the title of "museum". A section on this site with this title would be wonderful. A delicate woodcut, from the presses of the great master printers of Antwerp in the 17th century was quickly enhanced with gouache with incredible meticulousness as could be the hand of a young girl of good birth at that time. This illumination was undoubtedly to adorn a prayer book dedicated to the Virgin Mary. But the additional interest of this document is that the back includes a calligram in old Dutch. The silhouette of a newborn, swaddled, is surrounded by a ribbon of prose. The wishes and praises in the shape of hearts testify, even if one does not master this verb, to an obvious love for the recipient.... Who I think is Angelina, the sister of Clara, the author of this post. who will never see the inside of a pious book but will be preserved in the family archives.
