He was a student of Franz Francken the Younger and a member of the League of Saint Luke in 1636. Christoffel Van Der Lamen specialized in genre painting. He liked to depict assemblies of musicians, backgammon players, indoor or outdoor meals. The guests were always richly dressed, the women wearing magnificent silk dresses in bright colors and adorned with jewelry, the men in extravagant hats.
