This scene depicting two antique warriors, in the style of the great works of David and his students, uses allegorical illustrations of ancient myths, praising the virtues of courage, fraternity, heroism, and sacrifice in a neoclassical style.
An amusing feature of this studio study, created with period accessories, is that our warrior wears a Restoration-era firefighter's helmet, used to mimic that of a Greek soldier.
