Original old engraving, by Friedrich Salathé, (born January 11, 1793 in Binningen near Basel and died May 12, 1858 in Paris), is a Swiss landscape painter, draftsman and etcher,
after a composition by Hippolyte Sebron (born in Caudebec-en-Caux on August 21, 1801 and died in Paris on September 1, 1879), French painter. Painter of views, pastellist, portrait painter, landscape painter and photographer, Sebron was a pupil of Louis Daguerre in Paris.
A great traveler, he traveled across Europe, the Mediterranean and North America to paint ruins and landscapes. His work was rewarded many times at the Paris Salon and his paintings exhibited in the United States brought him international fame.
Sepia proof, slightly watercoloured. One of the first proofs of the edition.
