Beautiful Chancellery Venice Late 17th Century
Embroidered hanging, Italy, 16th century, crimson silk velvet applied with polychrome silk embroidery and metal tile decorated with Saint John the Baptist as a child in the center of a foliage cartouche surmounted by a crown supported by two cupids. Border decorated with foliage, quilted and lined, (some wear and restoration). 255 x 208 cm Two tapestries from the same workshop and the same period are kept in the Wallace collection, London (inv. F516 and F517), cf. Wallace Collection catalog, Vol. III, p. 1512 to 1514.
