Jean-Jacques-François TAUREL (Toulon 1757 – 1832 Paris) Unloading in a Mediterranean port Monogram lower right Oil on walnut panel, 24.2 x 31.6 cm THE ARTIST Student of Dean. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1787 to 1817 and especially celebrated the exploits of the French armies. The Versailles museum preserves his Entry of the French Army into Naples on January 21, 1799, but also that of Bernay with Fire in Toulon. Many of his works have been reproduced by lithography. THE WORK Rare painting by Taurel, as evidenced by the few works by this artist on the market, only around twenty paintings put up for public sale in the last thirty-five years.
