"Virgin In Grenada – 15th Century"
The Virgin holds the Child and in the other hand a pomegranate, a pomegranate that Jesus tries to seize. A fairly rare theme found mainly during the 15th and 16th centuries. The pomegranate, by the abundance of its seeds, symbolizes abundance.
Christians see in the pomegranate a union between the Church represented by the peel and its many faithful represented by the seeds of our fruit. A work in walnut carved around 1420.
