DECANIS Théophile (1847-1917)
“ White Road in Provence ”

Beautiful luminous work by the Marseille painter Théophile Décanis which represents a path in the Provençal scrubland with flowering broom, certainly on the heights of the Berre pond where the artist loved to paint.
The artist used a colorful palette and played with contrasts in order to meticulously represent the vegetation and the color nuances of a sunny day.
A student of Jean-Baptiste Olive, Théophile Décanis was initially an engraver before turning to painting. He exhibited landscapes of Provence at the Salon des Artistes français from 1884 to 1905. His work is critically acclaimed and has earned him numerous awards during his participation in Salons and exhibitions of the Association of Marseille Artists.
Théophile Décanis is recognized and renowned for being "a crude and exquisite prince of Provençal landscapes".
His works are kept in several museums such as Montpellier, Avignon, Amiens, Marseille.
Dimensions: 55 x 65 cm without its frame and 77 x 88 cm with its original gilded wood frame (a restoration to the frame should be noted in the top right corner).
