Piet Volckaert (Saint-Gilles, 1902 - Laeken, 1973).
Belgian painter, designer. Training at the Academy of Saint-Gilles and with Frans Gaillard. Painter of ancient places and small streets of Brussels, views of canals, landscapes, forest views around the Rouge-Cloître, portraits. Powerful and spontaneous line, subdued palette. Friend of Désiré Haine. Alain Viray called him the “Brussels Utrillo”. In 1965, the commune of Auderghem awarded him the GELebon prize. He won the gold medal at the overall exhibition in Paris, the gold medal in Villers-la-Ville, and in 1972, the Baron Steens prize.
Many of his works were acquired by museums, the Province of Brabant, the French Society of Fine Arts and numerous public and private administrations.
