Here we have a large original fireback by Lucas in cast iron, very rare because it is pre-series and therefore full size, a model which will later be produced in series most often by the Stern foundry in standard sizes: 60x50 +/ -1cm and 66x58 +/-1cm for a weight around 50kg. For this model, you will not find it elsewhere in this maximum dimension of 84cm by 76cm for 78kg. The other characteristic, the most important, is the respect for the original work of the artist: The depth and regularity of the lines, the precision of engraving which reveals the details, particularly visible for example in the plumage of the body and the very clear geometric and angular volumes of the greenhouses. The semi-circle which highlights the wings also forms a very sharp angle which gives all its character to the whole. It is easy to see that the level of detail is much higher in comparison with mass productions even if these are still generally of fairly good quality. Certain late reproductions whose mold is created from a pre-existing plate are less qualitative, the angles of the subject then appear blunted and there are even fewer details (worn effect sometimes attributed to the effect of heat whereas it is about the quality of production). Another detail to know is that the smoother the flat parts, the less artisanal the manufacturing process. Condition: Excellent and perfectly cleaned.
