Chinese Terracotta Sculpture Representing A Horse, China, Northern Wei Dynasty
Mingqi in terracotta with white slip and polychrome, representing a adorned horse.
Very good, even perfect condition.
Please note that all ancient Chinese terracotta sculptures were placed in the graves of the deceased to accompany them in their afterlife. They were subsequently extracted there and may therefore present wear, lack of polychromy or even restorations.
What I like best about this horse is the expression in its eyes that the painter was able to capture with a few strokes : despite its majestic appearance, the horse looks sad, resigned to having to put up with this finery for the parade.
A thermoluminescence test accompanies this sculpture.
