Africanist Stele By Emile Eloi Robert

Artist: Emile Eloi Robert
Africanist stele by Emile Eloi Robert

Large wooden stele by Emile Eloi Robert (1880-1948).
Born into a modest family, Emile Eloi Robert trained at the Académie des Beaux-Arts de Rennes, before entering the Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1900, first in Alexandre Falguière's studio, then that of Antonin Mercié.
A great sculptor of the Breton soul, he was also passionate about African subjects, such as his famous Tête de femme Mangbetu.
The stele we present is entirely in keeping with the passion for Africa felt by many artists at the time.
