Gothic architectural sculptures on the theme of nature, France or Flanders around 1500

Pair of architectural elements, decorated with forest scenes animated with animals, deer, doe, hunting dog, as well as a small animal taking refuge in its burrow.

These large triangular elements are similar to "crows" which participated in the ornamentation of a ceiling, in a large civil civil decor on the theme of nature and hunting.

In the first element, a deer with large antlers, showing its teeth, emerges from a dense forest which half hides it. In the second a doe gallops, flanked by a hunting dog while in the distance a small animal, perhaps a badger, takes refuge in its burrow.

By its vertical construction and the appearance of the animals, such as the deer showing its teeth, these decorations are still linked to the courtly world of international Gothic, that of Franco-Flemish tapestries from the end of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th century, such as the Lady with the Unicorn, as well as frescoes by Pisanello.

Bear old collection and inventory labels.
