Jubako is a term used to refer to a box consisting of two to five superimposed compartments (or sub-boxes) in which food is stored and transported to picnic sites.

This one is made of hiramaki-e gold lacquered wood and inlaid with mother-of-pearl. Period Meiji (1868-1912)
