Naval battle, oil on canvas dimensions 30.5 cm x 40 cm, with its wooden frame 51.5 cm x 61 cm, by Adam Silo, Holland around 1720. Adam Silo is a Dutch painter born in Amsterdam on December 25, 1674 and died in the same city in 1760. He is a painter specializing in naval combat scenes, but also in whaling scenes. he also wrote art books and gave drawing lessons to Tsar Peter the Great, and his works can be found in the Hermitage Museum. This naval battle scene is probably an episode from the war between the British and the Dutch, probably that of 1665 to 1667 which saw the victory of the Dutch. Works by Silo can also be found at the Maritime Museum in Rotterdam and the Historical Museum in Amsterdam.
