Jean-Marie Strebelle (born in 1916 in Ixelles - died in 1989 in Braine-L'alleud) He is the son of the painter Rodolphe Strebelle (Tournai 1880 – Uccle 1959) and the brother of the architect Claude Strebelle (1917-2010) and the sculptor Olivier Strebelle (1927-2017). Belgian painter, designer and decorator. Studies monumental painting at ENSAV (La Cambre) in Brussels with A. Carte, H. Theirlinck and E. de Saedeleer. A sailor from 1932 to 1946, he served in the United States Navy during World War II. He twice won first prize from the Painters of the Sea in New York. His first exhibition took place in 1938 at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. In 1946, he created the Phalanstère de Torhout with his brothers Claude and Olivier as well as C. de Brouckère. He participated in the Venice Biennale (1960). In 1987, he illustrated “The Old Man and the Sea” by E. Hemingway. His pictorial work includes seascapes, landscapes, portraits of women.
