Antoine Calbet is a painter, designer, watercolorist and illustrator. His training began at the school of fine arts in Montpellier then at that of Paris in Cabanel's workshop. It was from 1880 that he exhibited at the salons of French artists, gallant scenes, nudes and themes from mythology. He was made an officer of the Legion of Honor. The painting is signed lower left.
