French Onyx, Gilt-Bronze and Champlevé Enamel Dish, circa 1880
An elegant shaped ornamental dish centred by a finely veined onyx panel in warm ivory and honey tones.
The onyx is framed by a richly decorated gilt-bronze border embellished with polychrome champlevé enamel scrollwork, foliage and arabesques in a refined palette of blue, red, turquoise, white and gold.
Each end is adorned with a finely cast gilt-bronze handle designed as a ribbon bow surrounding a medallion depicting a female profile, characteristic of the Louis XVI decorative repertoire.
The dish is raised on four small turned gilt-bronze feet.
French work from the Napoleon III period, dating from the late 19th century, circa 1880.
