The Venus Victrix In Carrara Marble flag

Object description :

"The Venus Victrix In Carrara Marble"
"Venus Victrix" (Victorious Venus) is a portrait sculpture of Pauline Bonaparte, half-naked, made in real size, in the neoclassical style, by the Italian sculptor Antonio Canova. The work was carried out in Rome between 1805 and 1808 on the orders of Pauline Bonaparte's husband, Camillo Borghese, in honor of the marriage of the sister of the French emperor to a representative of the princely family. After the sculpture was finished it was transported to Turin where the Camillo mansion was located then to Genoa and it was only in 1838 that the master's work arrived at the Borghese gallery.
Our white Carrara marble sculpture is a reduced model dating from the second half of the 19th century; i.e. around 1880. The sculpture rests on a rectangular gilded wooden base. This sculpture is in good condition and is of good quality.
