King Louis XV as a child posing alongside the regalia. School of Pierre Gobert (1662-1744) Oil on canvas Period frame (Bérain baguette) in carved and gilded wood. Dimensions with its frame: 87 x 70 cm. This portrait of Louis the workshop, according to several prototypes painted by the master. (The gallery sold another version some time ago.) These paintings were intended to be offered as gifts (often diplomatic), or to adorn galleries of portraits of illustrious people, in large provincial residences. The composition presents the royal attributes: the sword, the crown, the blue ribbon and the order of the Holy Spirit as well as the staff of command. Pierre Gobert (Fontainebleau, 1662 – Paris, 1744) is a French painter, son of the sculptor Jean II Gobert. He was admitted to the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture on December 31, 1701 as a portraitist. He became one of the favorite painters of the court and great ladies at the end of the reign of Louis XIV and until the reign of Louis XV as shown by the large number of portraits he created.
