Proportion Compass By Gambey, Circa 1820

Brass proportion compass from the 19th century but of very good quality and attributable to Henri Gambey. The compass is not signed but dates from the 1820s-1830s. The very particular decoration of its hinge and the style of the engravings allow us to attribute this compass to Henri Gambey (see the last three photos showing a box, which is not for sale, of mathematics containing a compass of similar proportions signed by Gambey). The compass measures 17.2cm/33.5cm in length. It is engraved on these two sides with 8 scales: Equal parts, Calibers of parts, Plans, Polygons, Cords, Solids, Metals and Cords. Very good condition. The brass has retained its original patina.
