It is therefore a new post-impressionist canvas by Jean Teilliet, here he paints a Limousin peasant returning from his harvest on the banks of Vienne; as usual Teilliet takes care of his drawing, and uses a very subtle palette with browns, purples, greens, blues, etc. A very very beautiful work by this excellent Limousin painter. Jean-Cyprien Teillet was born on September 4, 1870 in Saint-Junien, at his parents' home located rue Saler (today Faubourg Liebneck). He was the son of Pierre-Séverin, doctor of medicine, and Marie-Alexine Laveyssière. Rubbing shoulders with the greatest artists of the time (his mother was a musician, his grandparents received Lamartine, Musset, Corot), his artistic predisposition was strongly encouraged. After studying at the Saint-Junien college, Jean-Cyprien, passionate about painting, continued with the School of Decorative Arts in Limoges, then the School of Fine Arts in Paris. He admirably painted the region dear to his heart. In 1904, with a few friends, he was behind the creation of the “Limousins de Paris” association, and that same year he organized a major artistic festival in Saint-Junien during which the “Limousins de Paris” was inaugurated. Corot website. Passionate about his region, after the First World War he undertook to collect the songs and dances of Limousin in order to save them from oblivion. He divides his time between his house in Saint-Germain de Confolens (16) and that of Saint-Junien which he had restored to his taste. It was in 1925 that he founded “la Noce Villageoise Limousine de Saint-Junien”, a group of singers and dancers perpetuating the customs of their ancestors. In 1929 he was also the creator of the municipal museum of Saint-Junien. His student was the now famous Suzanne Léger, a Limousin painter from the Crozant school. He died on October 23, 1931. Canvas in very good original condition, recently cleaned, in an old gilded frame which has some gaps. Guaranteed authentic work
