"Stunning 17th Century Mythological Painting, Sleeping Venus"
COD: 11044-2 Great mythological painting from the second half of the 17th century. Oil painting on canvas depicting a wonderful sleeping Venus. Two splendid fauns raise the curtain and reveal the naked body of the Goddess while she is breastfeeding her son Cupid. Artwork of notable pictorial quality, evident in particular in the creation of the drapery and skin tones with a strong contrast between the diaphanous and delicate skin of the Goddess and the exuberant and wild muscles of the fauns behind her. It should also be highlighted that this canvas adopts almost Rococo solutions, giving the composition a great freshness. Painting attributable to the Italian painter Filippo Abbiati (1640-1715), one of the greatest exponents of Milanese Baroque, lacking authenticity. Spectacular antique contemporary frame in carved, lacquered and gilded wood, in good condition with some signs of aging (see photo). Painting that has undergone restoration with relining, replacement of the frame and restoration of color in some places, overall in a good state of conservation. Artwork that is part of a pair (see photo and ask for the price of the pair if still available). Sight size H 111 x W 142 cm.
