"Very Fine Pencil Drawing On Glossy Paper Enhanced With Watercolor 19th Century Mahogany Frame"
This remarkable drawing of incredible finesse is a representation of the cloister courtyard of Queens College in Cambridge executed in 1900. A beautiful graphite with a delicate sepia wash coloring. The performance of this small work lies in the skill and the young artist studying at this period and on the support a raw glossy paper and well-sharpened graphite; in an elegant and sober English red mahogany frame with slide (openable on the rear) the four corners with double scrollwork and a boudin molding. A touching piece. Robert Borlase (1881-1947), was subsequently a specialist in architectural drawing and seascapes...at a recognized address.
