Italian, late 19th century

The black slate of shaped outline, maximum dimensions 17.5 x 13 x 2 cm

Representing the doves of Pliny: the image comes from a Roman floor mosaic discovered in 1737 at Hadrian's Villa in Tivoli, which in turn is believed to be a copy of a lost ancient Greek mosaic at Pergamon.

Good condition, a few minor damages to the edges of the plaque.
