The contours are decorated with acanthus floral motifs: it was considered a symbol of virginity as it is a spontaneous plant that grows in uncultivated land. Depictions of its leaves adorned the robes of the most important personalities. In early Christianity and then in medieval Christianity, the acanthus was a symbol of the Resurrection.
