Object description :

"Sud De France – Cuguen Victor – Barques à Toulon – Huile Sur Panneau - Signé"
Work executed on plywood panel. Painting depicting fishing boats in Toulon harbor. 2 figures stand on the largest of the boats. The bright colors of the hulls are reflected in the sea. In the background, the harbor buildings and a blue and pink twilight sky.
The whole is painted with a palette knife, with beautiful material effects.
The work is small and therefore easy to place in a room.
Signed lower right.

Condition: Very good, clean condition. It is presented in a turn-of-the-century gilded wood frame in good condition.
The location and artist's name are on the back of the frame.
The back of the work is spectacular in itself: it features a second painting, this time of a landscape, also signed!

The artist
Victor Louis Cuguen was born in Normandy, but spent most of his life in Toulon, where he was a drawing teacher. He died in Toulon in 1969. He worked exclusively with palette knives. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon des artistes français, from 1923 onwards.
Several of his works are held at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Saint-Lô, in his native region. His works have also been the subject of numerous public sales.
Works on view at the gallery (07240).
