"Rare Pair Of Empire Period Torches"
Rare pair of Empire period candlesticks, Pierre Philippe Thomire.Pair of candlesticks in chiseled gilded bronze and bronze with brown patina resting on a generous round base decorated with a water leaf frieze at the edge, attached to a fine frieze of crosspieces, followed by a decoration of bald man's wings -stylized applied mice, like the flared stem and the base of the binet.
The shaft, in patinated bronze, rises from a small pedestal decorated with a delicate crown of interlacing to end in a collar finely knurled with crosspieces and topped with long petals in a radius around the round binet. This accommodates a bobèche with a chiselled edge of fine striations and small pearls.
Rare model of torches, attributed to Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843). In 1810, Thomire-Duterme et Cie delivered a series of five pairs, with bat wing motifs, for the Palace of Fontainebleau.
Very good state of conservation.
Probably old re-gilding, perfectly executed.
