Iconography linked to archaeological discoveries was a popular theme for Italian artists in the 19th century. Mostly intended for the English and French, these small bronzes were intended to be taken to neighbouring countries as a souvenir of the trip to Italy. There is a whole production linked to this trip, such as small mosaics, marble busts and so on.
Local bronze-founders, in Naples for the Pompeian finds, and in Rome and Florence for the Etruscan finds, produced a great profusion of these models.
