Pewter Dinner Holder - Clamecy, 19th Century

Pewter truncated-conical DINNER HOLDER with quarter-round groove, central grip lid and dangling handle with curly cherub head attachments. Height at throat: 12.2 cm.

This object was used by shepherds and field workers, daily workers, etc. There were several sizes, the number of which varies according to the production centers, from 4 to 6. The shapes of these dinner holders vary, they are truncated conical in Burgundy, pomiform in Ile-de-France, flared in Anjou..the fasteners handles, depending on the region, there are cherub heads, rosettes, florets, human masks, etc. Among the BOUVIER in CLAMECY, we see small variations in the number of curls in the hair of the cherub heads
