Rare Malagan dance mask collected from the Tabar Islands in Papua New Guinea. This mask called "Tatanua" represents the soul available to a person and is used during commemoration ceremonies. These relatively light wooden masks are worn during ritual dances. This was notably used during a large ceremony organized in February 2020 on the island of Tatau. Wood, plant fibers (notably coconut and pandanus), coconut bark, pigments and shells. Sold with a presentation base. 46 x 21 x 43 cm / €1700 base and shipping costs included.
