"Engraving By Hieronymus Wierix "christ Blowing Soap Bubbles" Before 1619 17th Century"
Very rare engraving by Hieronymus Wierix representing Christ blowing soap bubbles. We see the Christ child blowing to make soap bubbles. In a workshop interior with angels, women weavers and two bearded men in the background. In cartridge: O child, nothing is lighter, nothing is more fragile. Mother, born for stature; A cubit is a short measure; He's a great son. The work represents Christ blowing soap bubbles. This theme of Christ represented as a child accompanied by elements referring to his imminent death is recurrent but it is rarer to find this motif of soap bubbles. Often linked to youth, this iconography aims to support the innocence of the child who does not suspect the inevitable passage of time and the fragility of life. Done by Hieronymus Wierx with the grace and privilege of Joachim de Buschere, secretary to the council of Brabant. Magnificent allegory created before 1619, the date of his death in Antwerp. 9.5x6.3cm
