Painted hard porcelain, blue mark under glaze

Fürstenberg, circa 1760

A very fine scalloped plate with a ribbed rim, decorated with scales in relief and arabesques. Painted decoration of insects and garlands of flowers. The centre is decorated with two birds to be identified.

The Fürstenberg Manufactory
Founded in 1747 under the aegis of the Duke of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, it is still the second oldest German factory still in operation.
A similar plate can be found in the Kestnermuseum in Hanover, and is reproduced full page in Fürstenberger porzellan / II Geschirre / p. 178 by Siegfried Ducret. See photo.
