Rare cartapesta mirror frame, Italy 17th century. Interesting and rare papier-mâché frame called cartapesta on a resinous frame, originating from Italy and dating from the 17th century. The frame is decorated with a large frieze of laurel leaves held by ribbons, this decoration covers the entire center of the baguette, this motif is connected to each corner by drapes, a frieze of heart rays highlights the interior of the frame while a protruding molding finishes the exterior. This type of frame remains rare given its already quite large dimensions but above all the cartapesta technique which is fragile, this frame has been adapted as a mirror throughout its history, without transformation of the frame, allowing if desired to be used new in frame. Healthy and stable building and structure, wear and small usual restorations, the mirror which takes place in the frame is mercury and undoubtedly dates from the 19th century.
