Very beautiful work of art nouveau spirit representing a nymph or goddess representing light, work entitled, The first quarter. Ferdinand Gilbault, 1837 Brest 1920 Paris was a famous 19th century artist specializing in portraits and medals inspired by his native Brittany. He participated in the Salon between 1887 and 1920 and was a member of the Society of French Aryists. Here a gilded bronze plaque having retained its original patina highlighting a symbolization of light facing a nascent star.
