Object description :

"Polychrome Terracotta Statuette Of A Norman Hunter. End Of The 18th-early 19th Century"
Interesting and important terracotta statuette with traces of polychromy and representing a hunter from the end of the 18th or beginning of the 19th century. Mounted on a cast iron base, it can be sold without (dismantled by our restorer in our workshop). Initially a privilege of the nobility of the Ancien Régime, the Revolution (1789-1799) granted everyone a “right to hunt”. It therefore became an attribute of property rights before the Verdeuille law called into question this achievement in 1964. Our hunter, wearing his caudebec, is accompanied by his weapon and his dog at his feet. As the Norman forests were infested with wolves and foxes at that time, sheep farming was constantly under threat. Several sources also testify to the human tragedies which sometimes happened in the Normandy countryside, which popular rumor continued to amplify until the disappearance of these canines in the 1930s. Manchoise production. Beautifully crafted and sized folk art. The base measures 21 cm the cast iron foot measures 7 cm
