Pair of small fist candlesticks
Gilded bronze with ormolu, 7 elements
Dimensions : H. 15 (cm.)
Paris, circa 1810 - 1820

A pair of candlesticks standing on a circular guilloche base, the shaft resting on three claw feet. Rich alternating gadroon motifs and chased geometric friezes. Beautiful quality of casting and adjustment. A quality piece in terms of the number of elements. To be compared with the large format deliveries made by André-Antoine Ravrio and Claude Galle for the Garde-Meuble impérial.

This format was also known as "ras de cave" or "ragot". They were ideal for washing up and, thanks to their compact size, were easy to move around at night. They were often placed on small pieces of furniture such as dressing tables or bedside tables. But they could also be used for decorative purposes, for example as decoration for a writing desk.

Condition report: very minor wear to the gilding, later bobèches.
