"Octagonal Hollow Earthenware Dish By Charles François Hannong Strasbourg Circa 1720-1725"
Grand feu earthenware dish with blue monochrome decoration of Rouennais style lambrequins. Mark M on the reverse in blue: this is a painter's mark from the workshop of Charles François HANNONG. Dutch in origin, this earthenware maker was originally a clay pipe manufacturer in Holland and came to settle in STRASBOURG as an earthenware maker at the beginning of the 18th century and founded the HANNONG earthenware dynasty. Object in perfect condition with beautiful enamel and a deep blue which indicates perfectly controlled cooking
