"Small Art Nouveau Jugendstil Furniture Circa 1900"
Rare and strange little Jugendstil piece of furniture of German or Austrian production in high quality walnut. Several details make us think that it is a German or Austrian creation from the end of the 19th century (between 1880 and 1900). First of all, the centerpiece: this magnificent chiseled brass panel decorated with cabochons, enhanced with a HIGH QUALITY painting making us think of Gustav KLIMT or Konrad KIESEL, whose similar work on painted embossed leather was presented during from an auction in England. The finesse of the decoration of this panel is absolutely sumptuous. The scene represents a young woman carrying a jar surrounded by two parakeets coming to drink from a pool. The vine decorations, the draping and the woman's hairstyle undoubtedly evoke Germanic Art Nouveau, inspired by Greco-Roman mythological scenes. Finally, the massive and raw appearance of the base, inspired by the rocaille style, is typically Germanic. Last element allowing us to attribute this piece of furniture to the Germanic Art Nouveau movement: it comes from a castle in Germany, in Baden-Württemberg. Notice the care taken with the patina of this piece of furniture: certain acanthus leaves and shells have received a golden highlight, which adds depth and relief to the walnut decor! The piece of furniture has its original Jugendstil key. It has an inventory number on the back. A magnificent little piece of furniture, atypical, very beautifully made, which will fit anywhere, because it is small!
