Rare pair of processional torch holders in black and gold painted sheet metal to the glory of St-Polycarpe and dated 1806. St-Polycarpe (in Greek many fruits) was born around 70 and died in 155 or 167, was a direct disciple of the Apostle John and second bishop of Smyrna (today Izmir in Turkey). Died as a martyr for the Faith, this Saint and Apostolic Father is commemorated on February 23 according to Roman martyrology. He was burned alive. Good state of conservation. Early 19th century period.
