Hermès - Mercury After The Antique, Naples Cast Iron, Bronze Circa 1880 flag

Object description :

"Hermès - Mercury After The Antique, Naples Cast Iron, Bronze Circa 1880"
Our sculpture is a resumption of the statue discovered during the excavations of the Villa of the Papyri in Herculaneum in 1758 and today preserved at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. It represents the God of travelers and traders Hermes (Mercury for the Romans) resting. Specialists agree that it is a Roman copy from the 1st century AD based on a Greek bronze from the 3rd century BC. JC.
Our statue is an Italian cast iron from Naples, from the end of the 19th century.
Bronze with nuanced patina, circa 1880 of very good quality.
