Young Woman With A Mask, Henri Serrur, 1844
Portrait of a young woman dressed as a shepherdess, wearing a Columbine mask in her right hand. Signed SERRUR in the middle right. It is undoubtedly a disguise for a party or a carnival, worn by this young person, hence the presence of the mask. Henri Auguste César SERRUR, born February 8, 1794 in Lambesart, died in Lille on March 31, 1876, is a French painter. A student of JB Regnault at the Beaux Arts in Paris from 1837, he exhibited in this city between 1819 and 1850. A history painter, he also created portraits.
