"Saint Francis In Ecstasy, Oil On Canvas With Original Frame, Follower F. Fracanzano 1612-1656"
Oil on canvas on a original frame in black lacquer and gilt angles and engraved with vegetable spirals, produced around the middle of the 17th century, most likely by a Caravaggesque Neapolitan painter.Characterized by a painting imbued with intense darkness and a strong spiritual value, it arrogantly approaches the formal and stylistic solutions (rapid and dense brushstrokes) of the master Francesco Fracanzano (Monopoli 1612-1656 Naples).
Saint Francis represented on canvas in a half-figure is taken with a slightly oblique vanishing point at the moment of the greatest ecstasy, a moving cry expresses his true and passionate faith. The hands tightened with force in prayer bear witness to the carnal stigmata, a divine miracle which makes the saint of Assisi a true alter Christus.
The measurements of the canvas are approximately 89h x 62cm in length; Measures including the frame 114h x 87 cm.
