"Rare Bronze The Bather By Charles Brunin"
Rare period model. The bronze is of a very beautiful color, probably from the Brussels bronze company. In the 1870 period there were no stamps or marks from the bronze company. 1883), in Beloeil SummaryCharles Brunin is the son of the merchant Eugène Victor Joseph Brunin and Caroline Claire Dandoy[2]. He studied at the Academy of Mons with Étienne Wauquière, at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp with Joseph Geefs (1865-1869) and at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels (1869-1870, 1872- 1873) with Eugène Simonis[1]. In 1869, he competed for the Prix de Rome, which he did not win. However, he was able to go to Rome thanks to subsidies from the city of Mons[3]. His stay in Italy inspired him to create several Italian folkloric types. Brunin sculpted busts, figures, memorials and portraits. He made his debut as an exhibitor in September 1871, at the Living Masters Exhibition in Amsterdam and a week later at the Salon in Ghent. He also participated in the Brussels Salons, the universal exhibitions of 1878 in Paris and 1880 in Brussels, and the Universal Colonial and General Export Exhibition (nl) (1883) in Amsterdam. In 1872, he exhibited the marble bust of a Milanese woman at the Brussels Salon. A scandal broke out when the work was purchased by a member of the jury instead of the State[4]. His marble work The Pigeons of Saint-Marc was purchased by the king at the Brussels Salon of 1875, and a bronze copy entered the collection of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium in 1893[5]. In 1879, he won a commission for a monumental vase behind the parliament building in Brussels. Brunin's work was distinguished at the 1879 World's Fair in Sydney and at the Adelaide Jubilee International Exhibition in Adelaide (1887). From 1873 to 1882, Brunin was a professor at the Academy of Mons. In 1879, he married Marie Pauline Ernestine Clays (1855), daughter of the marine painter Paul-Jean Clays. In 1882, the couple settled again in Brussels. Brunin died a few years later, at the age of 46.
