"Portrait Of A Dragon Officer Signed Sorg"
Portrait of a senior officer of the Dragoons wearing a Schomberg helmet, certainly a squadron leader given his epaulettes: one side with cables and the other with coarse broth, belonging to the Coigny regiment, holding his hand in his hand sword and displaying the plaque of the Veteran's Cross, oil on canvas signed Sorg and dated 1779 on the back. Sorg Johann Jacob, painter born in Strasbourg on September 8, 1743, died in Multzig (Bas-Rhin) on October 13, 1821. Father of Joseph Sorg, he worked in Augsburg, Mannheim and Munich. The Oberenhiem Museum preserves Saint Odile and Visitation from him, and the Strasbourg Museum, Portrait of a Man and Portrait of the Artist. Oil on canvas in good condition (small restorations on the bottom of the painting), original canvas and stretcher, period frame. Dimensions without frame H80.8 cm x L64.3 cm, dimension with frame H89.5 cm x L73 cm.
