"Burmese Adorer In Carved Wood."
The monk Sariputta (Sariputra), in wood carved in the mass: (with the exception of the two feet) The rear drape was carved in one piece (see photo). Beautiful state of conservation, the patina is asserted through the vestiges of saffron, chalk and orange-red polychromy which mingle with the stucco persisting on the wood. The posture and expression of the eyes are well reinforced by the correct inclination of the face, slightly raised. Burma (Myanmar), end of the Konbaung period, circa 1880. H 36 cm x D 35 cm x W 27 cm Provenance: Estate of the collector and art dealer Claude de Marteau. https://www.thecdmcollection.be/ Sold with certificate of provenance.
