Marius Jean Antonin Mercié, born in Toulouse in 1845 and died in Paris in 1916, is a French sculptor and painter. His first big successes were David and Gloria Victis, works presented in Paris at the 1872 salon for which he received the medal of honor. The bronze statue of David is one of his most famous works. David is depicted triumphant, sheathing his sword, with the head of Goliath at his feet. Our bronze is signed on the A -Mercié terrace. It has the foundry stamp “Barbedienne Fondeur” and its “COLAS mechanical reduction” stamp. Bronze in perfect condition, with a magnificent patina. Total height 73cm.
